Ventrolla, the window renovation specialist, has upgraded and renovated sash windows at a former brewery in Stone, Staffordshire.
A total of 18 original sash windows have been renovated at the grade 1 listed building which dates back to the 1850s and was originally the home of the Joules Brewery. Today it is the headquarters of MG Sanders, a specialist precision engineering company that services the Pharmaceutical, Defence Aerospace and Motorsport sectors.
Ventrolla were called in during the initial planning stage to carry out a full survey and advise on how best to approach the window renovation. It was important to retain the character and original look of the building by renovating the existing wooden sash windows, especially as it is considered to be a local landmark.
The windows were upgraded using the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS), which has been tested to 600 Pa, which is equivalent to winds of 71 mph, and achieves Class 3 of BS 6375-1
The Ventrolla system comes in two parts. Firstly, the window is renovated so that it operates correctly, and any damaged timber is repaired, then secondly the unique Perimeter Sealing System is installed which eradicates rattles and minimises draughts. A spokesperson for Ventrolla said:
“This was quite an unusual project in that one of the windows is situated over the canal so we had to use a tug boat to carry out some of the work.”
“It is great to have restored these spectacular period windows to their former glory, while at the same time improving the overall energy efficiency of the building.”
With over 30 years experience, Ventrolla offers a tailored range of period window solutions. Their unique service includes draught-proofing with the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) and fitting replacement double-glazed sashes that incorporate the patented Sash Removal System (SRS) for easy painting and future maintenance.
They also offer complete new timber windows, secondary glazing solutions and a wide range of window hardware. The company has its head office in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and regional offices located throughout the UK and Ireland.
